What they said

Infrastruct provided invaluable support to our HS2 programme, delivering project management alongside utilities and GPR mapping, bridge condition assessments, and 3D laser scanning with BIM modelling of railway structures.

Their expertise, reliability, and collaborative approach were instrumental in ensuring the success of these works.

FAQs

What is a utility mapping survey?

A utility mapping survey identifies and maps underground utilities such as pipes, cables and ducts. It provides essential information about the location and depth of buried services before groundworks begin.

Why would I need one?

A utility mapping survey helps you avoid damaging buried services during excavation or construction. It also supports safer working practices and more accurate design planning.

How accurate are your surveys?

Accuracy depends on the detection method, soil conditions, site access and more. We use industry-recognised techniques and quality control processes to ensure data is as precise and reliable as possible.

Do your surveys comply with industry standards?

Yes. All our utility mapping surveys are completed in accordance with relevant industry/sector standards, ensuring consistency, safety and data quality.

Can you identify the type and material of utilities?

In many cases we can. Our equipment can often determine whether a utility is metallic or non-metallic and indicate its likely purpose, such as water, gas or electric.

Do you need to dig or excavate?

Most of our utility mapping work is non-intrusive. However, we can coordinate selective trial holes or potholing to confirm locations and depths when required. Physical verification is always required when carrying out a PAS128 type B survey, for example, but is not typically required for other types.

Can you combine this with a topographic survey?

Yes. We frequently combine utility mapping with topographic surveys to produce comprehensive plans showing both surface and subsurface features.

What format will I receive my results in?

We can provide deliverables in CAD, GIS or BIM formats, depending on your preference. We will confirm your requirements before starting the survey to ensure compatibility.

How long does a survey take?

Duration varies depending on the site size, location, complexity, access levels, and conditions. We will provide a clear schedule before work begins and keep you informed throughout.
